2018 Garfagnanna Italy Residency for the Digital Stone Project founded by Jon Isherwood several years earlier
in 2021 six artists from Edmonton beginnings all joined forces to bring nine of their sculptures back to Edmonton as Digital Stone Project : Edmonton for a residency in Canada since Covid 19 cancelled three years of plans for them to go to Italy to do the hand refining there.
DSP:E was endorsed by ESP to have an Exhibition at The Brighton Block by Ken Cantor and Primavera Developments and another Exhibition at the FAB Gallery at the U of Alberta followed by another outside at the grounds of Homestudio Mills.
The Residency was held at Diamond J ranch where Vance and Kelly Johner hosted Carson Tarnasky, Marilyn Langevin, Alicia Proudfoot, Thomas Fenton, Royden Mills and Kelly Johner to work all together for a month.
The Next Phase: To get a space to house and provide workspace and tools for artists to come and create work from. It is exciting because it is happening!
The images below are from three different exhibitions of the first residency that ESP did.
Thomas Fenton hand refining the Italian marble that was rough milled by a cutting edge seven axis milling machine so all that was needed was a month of hand finishing.

He was able to use facilities at the Mills Home Studio and at the University of Alberta, he was provided tools, space and time, lodging and food. The idea of any residency is to encourage discourse and collaboration towards promoting sculpture, research and discourse.
